In my 1st week of school at Endeavour, a Primary 3 boy from my art class posed me these questions, "Are you an artist? Do art teachers make artworks? Do they hold exhibitions?" I pondered deeply over his questions after the art lesson. I hope this post provided some answers for him and I hope that other children will be equally curious to find out more about art.
The Singapore Teachers' Academy for the aRts (STAR) recently organised a visual art exhibition showcasing the works of 23 art teachers at Sculpture Square. I was invited to be part of the organising committee for this exhibition. We planned 2 interactive fringe activities for the public during the exhibition.

The session held on 31 March was 'Paper and Structures' where participants explored and experimented with the creation of interesting forms and shapes with the given materials. Nicholas and his sister, Emily from 3A, turned up for the session with their parents. I was thrilled to receive them. We had tremendous fun creating a paper sculpture together. We exchanged rich conversation about our art-making processes and the exhibits. Nicholas and Emily even commented on the exhibition in the guest book.
In the afternoon, I had my 2nd surprise. Elizabeth turned up at Sculpture Square with her parents and her brother, Ethan. I was delighted to welcome them and we had a wonderful time creating a paper sculpture together too. Elizabeth's mother amazed us with the intriguing shapes and forms she had created. I would love to have her share with 1F pupils her paper-cutting skills.
