This is the last PAL lesson for Visual Art. 1F pupils had to string the puppets, monsters and buildings they had created into an interesting story. For a moment, I was worried if this task might be too daunting for our young ones. Nevertheless, I decided to continue my role as an observer. The children hardly hesitated. They arranged their art pieces and spoke excitedly about their ideas to one another. It was a joy listening to their conversations and seeing them direct their own learning. Cooperation and active listening is so part of 1F culture now.
The fantastic stories that 1F children came up with, the unedited versions. I was impressed by their imagination running wild and tickled by the humour in many of the writings. I pondered a while about 'Teach Less, Learn More'. These wonderful stories were testimonials that, once routines and structures were established, our young ones could direct their own learning and in such diverse ways. I hope we as educators would find the courage to let our pupils chart their learning path.
